Power Supply System
The Power Supply System powers the entire Metro system network. It is essential to the normal operation of all systems, including the trains, communications, signals, elevators, escalators, automatic fare collection, lighting, and air-conditioning.
System Components
- Bulk Supply Substation (BSS):Incoming 161kV ultra-high voltage is converted by Taipower into 22kV before it is supplied to the traction substations (TSS) and facility power substations (FPSS) (including depots). There are two sets of 161kV gas insulation switchgear (GIS) and transformers to provide high-quality power.
- Traction Substation (TSS):22kV power supply is stepped down and rectified to 750V DC then transmitted through the conductor rails to the trains. TSS are spaced about 1.5 to 2km apart on the tracks.
- Facility Power Substation (FPSS):22kV power supply is stepped and rectified to 380/220V 3-phase 4-wire power supply for the use of general station and depot equipment.
- Gap Breaker Substation (GBSS):A fault in one on-line section may require the partitioning of neighboring zones to set up (Partial Service (PS) mode.
- Stray Current Monitoring System:Monitor stray current on the tracks and provide over voltage protection.
- Power Remote Control System:Used by the operations center to monitor and control substations and track-side equipment. The latest information on devices in smart PRC cabinets at all stations is collected by the PRC system for system monitoring and control.
